I am an operator - and that difference matters enormously when the stakes are high"From 1985 to 2020, Michael Levinson built and operated two landmark Ottawa hotel properties — Albert at Bay Hotel and Best Western Ottawa Downtown Suites — navigating recessions, a SARS outbreak, 9/11's impact on travel, and ultimately a successful exit from both properties in October 2020.In parallel, Michael served as President of the Ottawa Gatineau Hotel & Motel Association and VP of the Ontario Hotel & Motel Association — translating his operational experience into industry-level policy and advocacy work.An early digital strategist before the term existed, Michael built one of Canada's first online hotel reservation systems under the BookDirect brand in the 1990s — nearly a decade before mainstream online travel agencies disrupted the sector.
Now based in Toronto, Michael continues to advise businesses and boards across Canada. From 2020 to 2026, he served as Board Chair of TICO (Travel Industry Council of Ontario), Ontario's travel industry regulator — bringing a unique operator-to-governance lens to consumer protection policy.
